The College of Engineering has recognized Associate Teaching Professor Patty Buchanan with the Faculty Appreciation for Career Education and Training (FACET) honor for the third time. This recognition, awarded to her in 2019, 2022, and now in 2024, reflects her consistent dedication to student success and career development.

The FACET program, organized by the Career Center @ Engineering, celebrates faculty members who go above and beyond in helping students achieve their career aspirations. Nominations come directly from engineering students, highlighting the profound impact these educators have on their academic and professional journeys.

Professor Buchanan's latest nomination paints a vivid picture of her commitment to student success. A transfer student, feeling overwhelmed in their first quarter at UW, found solace and support in Professor Buchanan's “Introduction to Manufacturing Systems” class. Beyond the classroom, Professor Buchanan dedicated extra time to help the student overcome challenges in statistics, leading to improved performance and a stronger foundation in the subject.

The nomination also highlights Buchanan's ongoing mentorship, assisting the student with internship applications, interview preparation, and navigating the job search process. Her guidance culminated in the student securing a position for Summer 2024.

ISE interim chair Cynthia Chen commented on Professor Buchanan's achievement: "It comes as no surprise that Patty has won this award for the third time. Her ability to connect with students on both an academic and personal level is truly remarkable. Patty's dedication to nurturing our students' growth, both in the classroom and in their careers, exemplifies the very best of what we strive for in the ISE department."

Professor Buchanan's repeated recognition underscores the ISE department's commitment to providing not just excellent education, but also crucial career guidance and support. Her approach to teaching and mentoring serves as an inspiration to both colleagues and students alike.

We congratulate Professor Buchanan on this well-deserved recognition and thank her for her unwavering commitment to our students' success.
