A highlight of the ISE Undergraduate experience is the opportunity to learn from celebrated Assistant Teaching Professor Patty Buchanan.

As a Certified Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, Patty not only trains her students in methodologies that enhance their competitiveness in the job market, but also equips them with a versatile toolkit of skills that can contribute to their success throughout their college careers. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Capstone Project, where ISE Seniors work hand-in-hand with major private-sector sponsors, such as Amazon, Boeing and Starbucks, on real-world industry assignments.

This year's participants will be displaying their projects' results at the annual Capstone Expo and Poster Competition, on Friday, June 2, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at UW's Center for Urban Horticulture (NHS Hall). Students interested in learning more about ISE are encouraged to attend.

For her dedication to, and passion for, her students and discipline, Patty won the 2022 UW College of Engineering Faculty Teaching Award, as well as the 2022 Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineering Chapter Gold Award.
